About the movie
"Pan Wołodyjowski" is a 1968 Polish colour feature film by Jerzy Hoffman, based on Henryk Sienkiewicz's novel of the same title.
The film tells the story of Colonel Michał Wołodyjowski, who travels with his wife to the borderlands, to the stanitsa in Chreptiów, with the task entrusted to him of protecting the borders of the Republic of Poland.
Azja Mellechowicz deceitfully attempts to kidnap Basia, who, resisting, mutilates him, escapes and, after a dramatic experience, returns to her husband in Chreptiów. In revenge, on Asia's orders, the Tartars burn Rashkiv and kill the inhabitants. Asia goes over to the Sultan's side but meets a deserved punishment - for all his atrocities he is killed by impalement. Colonel Wolodyjowski goes to Kamieniec Podolski to defend the city against the Turks. There he dies blowing up the fortress.
