As early as in the 10th century, gold and silver began to be mined near the city of Kremnica, which was also associated with the development of mining and coinage in this region. Later in the 14th century, we use the term "Złota Kremnica" in historical documents. The city received this name due to the fact that a mint was established there, which produced gold and silver coins. The importance of the Mint of Kremnica not only in our territory, but also throughout Europe, increased with the minting of the golden Kremnica ducats - florins, which were a sought-after and very valuable currency throughout Europe.
To this day, the Kremnica Mint proves its important position in the country and in the world, producing monetary products of the highest world quality. Today, both domestic and foreign tourists can learn about the history of mining and coinage by visiting the Mining Museum - Andrej Kremnica adit, the Museum of Coins and Medals in Kremnica, and the exhibition at the Kremnica Mint. Both of these attractive tourist destinations, where tourists can learn about the history of mining and coinage, are open to tourists all year round.
The history of mining and coinage is just one of the features of the city that tourists can admire in this city, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List in 1993.
