All of us know the legendary figure of Juraj Jánošík and the village of Terchová from which he came. The Považské Museum in Žilina took advantage of this fact and in 2008 opened the Exposition Jánošík and Terchová, which is dedicated to the legendary bandit and his birthplace. Despite the fact that the exposition is divided into several thematic units, it is clear from the very beginning that the dominant element of the exposition will be Juraj Jánošík himself. The older ones of us will find out right at the entrance that the authors of the exposition want to present a traditional Terchov wooden house from several decades ago. The history of the village of Terchová since about the 16th century is faithfully documented by photocopies of contemporary documents and photographs. The legacy of the tradition of Jánošík, who was born in Terchová in 1688, is evoked by three-dimensional objects such as dereš, korbáč, handcuffs, a wide belt or a walaská.

Historians still argue about the exact date of Juraj Jánošík's birth, if we base on the records from the chronicle, we work with the date 25 January 1688. In the chronicle it was stated: "On the 25th of the same month I baptized the child born of Martin Jánošík and Anna Cesnekova, who is named Juraj. The godparents were Jakub Meriad and Barbora Krištofíková from Terchová". . His childhood was marked by two important anti-Habsburg uprisings of Imrich Tököli and František II. Rakoci. Later he became a kuruc and then an imperial soldier, where, among other duties, he was a member of the prison service and thus supervised Tomáš Uhorčík, a brigand captain from the Upper Kysuce Mountains. It is not clear under what circumstances Uhorčík managed to escape, but he later sought out Jánošík in Terchová and lured him onto the brigand's trail. After his departure, Jánošík became a brigand captain. He gained widespread support and popularity among the common people thanks to his desire for freedom and justice and, of course, his courage, which predestined him to become a legend. The exposition offers tourists to get acquainted with historical facts from the life of the legendary native of Terchova.
