Description of the place

The High Tatras are the most interesting tourist region of Slovakia. They are the largest mountain range on the territory of the Polish-Slovak border area with well-established infrastructure and availability of complex services. Visitors have the opportunity to get to the most interesting locations via hiking trails. At the same time they have access to mountain huts, lakes, waterfalls and some peaks with connections to crossroads, tourist centres or settlements. Tourists have the opportunity to use the Tatra tram and the built cable cars for transport between the resorts, which take them up to the Lomnicky Peak.

A place in the movie

The High Tatras have captivated many filmmakers with their beauty and grandeur. The opening of the film "Tomorrow will be late" was filmed in the High Tatras at the waterfall Skok, which is also captured in the film "Music of hearts". The film "In the Streams", "The Green Summer" and the fairy tale "Mahuliena, the Golden Maiden" were filmed in the Slovak mountains, among other locations. The vineyard film "Zlatá véva" (Golden Vine), the Czech film "Román pro mężczyzn" (A Novel for Men) and the 7th part of the Czech boating series "Proč bychom se netopili" (Why Wouldn't We Drown?) were also filmed on Lomnickom Peak. The beautiful mountains and valleys of the High Tatras were the setting for the fairy tale "Plavčík a Vratko", the balladic story in the film "Čenkov's Children", or the comedy film "Čertová stena" (The Devil's Wall). The rescue of the mountaineer Peter took place in Lomnickom saddle in the film "Hawk Tower". The saddle can also be seen in the comedy "Pinch of Salt", in which there are also shots from Solisko. In the series "30 Cases of Major Zeman", in the Tatra pastoral part, the film about the murder of Jiřina Drahotová is being shot in the Šuhaj chalet, now it is Bilík's chalet. The film nominated for the Crystal Globe in 2014 "Fair Play" captures the preparation of female athletes in the High Tatras for the upcoming Olympics. The Sci-Fi horror film "Wolf Lodge" also contains footage of the High Tatras mountains. In the film "Eagle Feather "the filming took place on Lomnicky saddle and in Zlomiskova valley. "The Copper Tower" was filmed in the Tatra Mountains in places such as Gerlachovský štít, Bradavica, Kežmarský štít, Lomnické sedlo or Lomnický štít and many others. In 1978, scenes of the award-winning sports-themed film "Snow Underfoot" were filmed. Rock climbing in the High Tatras can also be seen in the Czech film "Ani ve snu!". Other films capturing the beauty of the Tatra Mountains include "Lost Valley", the documentary "The Earth Sings", the military film "White Darkness", and the 4th episode of the wartime TV series "In the Shadow of Wolves". Jan Haft and Tomáš Hulík made the documentary "Wild Slovakia", in which they capture the rich natural features of the Tatra Mountains. Other documentaries that have been filmed here include "Slovakia is having fun with you", "Acceptance", "Tatras beautiful, Tatras mine", "Tatras in a dead end", "Tatras and their secrets...", "Tatras, a year after...", "Tatras are not little!", "Tatras are not little! ", "Tatry, a new story", "All in: Tatry without limits", "Hawk", documentaries by director Pavel Barabas "Live for passion", "Silence above the clouds", "Transformations of the Tatra Mountains", "Freedom under the load", "Tales of the Tatra peaks", "Tatra mystery" and "High Tatras - Wilderness frozen in time". The documentary "High Tatras" captures the beauty of the High Tatras and focuses on the promotion of the upcoming World Ski Championships in the classic ski disciplines in 1970. In the documentary "High Tatras on skis" Part I and Part II we meet with detailed descriptions of routes, saddles, peaks, ridges and valleys as well as expert commentary.

The fairy tale "The Firebird", the well-known film "Nosferatu the Vampire", the series "The Boy and the Dog" and scenes of the fantasy action film "Eragon" were also filmed in the Tatras. The movie "Faces" starred the megastar of Indian film industry Amitabh Bachchan at the House of Sliez.
