Description of the place
The medieval settlement of Pszczyna grew on a merchant route that led from Kraków to Silesia and then through Cieszyn to southern Europe. Also today, Pszczyna benefits from its convenient location. The city is located at the intersection of Katowice-Bielsko-Cieszyn (national road No. 1) and Oświęcim-Rybnik, between the Upper Silesian Industrial District and the Beskids. It is a hilly area, formed of glacial moraine layers (bottom and partially frontal), at an altitude of 200-300 meters above sea level. It covers the south-western part of the Silesian Upland and the western part of the Oświęcim-Raciborska Valley. It has a decisively agricultural character (almost 20,000 ha of arable land) with significant areas of forests, covering its northern part (over 14,000 ha), which have been famous for centuries due to their abundance of wild animals.
A place in the movie
The remarkably picturesque Pszczyna Market Square, located in the old part of the city, with its traditional, medieval design, has been used many times in film productions, incl. in "Magnat" and "Bitwa pod Wiedniem". In addition, the Castle Museum in Pszczyna, located in the beautiful scenery of a park and a small water reservoir, thanks to its unique appearance, is perfectly suited for historical film productions. That is why the Castle's interiors, including approx. 80% of the original furnishings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, have been used in such productions as the Dolina Bogów, Szuler, Magnat, Ociec Królowej, Biała wizytówka, or Ostatni Walc.
