The Spiš Castle is a ruin of a castle that connects the Eastern Slovak regions of Spisz and Šariš, and on an area of 3.9 ha it occupies the top of the travertine Spiš Castle Hill. It was built in the 11th-12th centuries at an altitude of 634 m above sea level and is now a monument in the Spišská Nová Ves County. The castle itself is a national cultural monument and, together with the monuments of its surroundings, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1993.
A place in the movie
The Spiš Castle is a very popular tourist destination because of its history and the exhibitions available. It has also become attractive to filmmakers, whether they are documentaries, fairy tales or adventure films. For example, the films "Dračie srdce", "Posledná legia", "Kull dobyvateľ", "História zapísaná do kameňa", "Na vysoka skale: Spišský rebel", "Popolvár najväčší na svete", "S tebou ma bavívate" were filmed here and "Radúz a Mahuliena". Many scenes were shot directly in the castle, where the walls have been preserved, and in a few shots we can also see the castle from a distance. In particular, in the fairy tale "Popolvár najväčší na svete", Spiš Castle is presented as the castle where Princess Láskykvet lived with her father. In the fairy tale "Radúz a Mahuliena", scenes from the Stojmíra castle were filmed in the chateau, for example, training the soldiers. The beautiful shots of the castle and its enchanting surroundings together make it the perfect choice for viewing the beauty of this magical place.
