Description of the place
An important centre of tourism and winter sports, which is part of the municipality Štrba belonged in the past to the famous spa towns. Today, however, it is a popular tourist destination. In winter, it attracts especially winter sports enthusiasts with slopes for more demanding, as well as casual visitors. Since it is part of the Tatra National Park, during the summer it offers tourists easy walks, but also ascents to chalets or peaks. It offers visitors good accommodation conditions, whether in cheaper or more expensive accommodation facilities.
A place in the movie
This local part of Štrba boasts the second largest Tatra lake in Slovakia. That is why it has become a target of interest for film makers, who have set the scenes of films such as Angel in the Mountains, “Náčelník Velký had”, Happy New Year, See You in Hell, Friends. Scenes from the film “Román pro ženu” were filmed in Park Snow on Štrbské Pleso. Vladimír Sís made a hockey film “Ledoví muži”, Andrea Sedláčková made a film nominated for the Crystal Globe in 2014 called “Fair Play”. In the sci-fi series She Fell From The Sky a number of scenes take place in the FIS Hotel, which can also be seen in the legendary children’s series about the magic little man with the black pinscher “Pan Tau”, in the series "Okná dokorán", or in the film “Orlie Pierko”. The panorama of the Tatra Mountains appealed to the creators of the film “Hudba sŕdc”. Other films filmed in the area include The Price of Courage, “Štipku soli”, “Tatranská romance” and “Román pro muže”. Scenes of the award-winning sports-themed film Snow Underfoot, the film “Čertova stena”, and the documentary From Slovakia With Love also took place at Štrbské Pleso.
