Description of the place
Ustrzyki Górne is a village located in the Bieszczady Mountains, in the Lutowiska municipality, on the Wołosaty stream. Mentions about it date back to the 16th century. As a result of fighting during World War II and displacements after the war, the village was completely destroyed. In the 1950s, a military watchtower and PTTK (Polish Tourist Country-Lovers' Society) hostel were built there, 30 years later - the buildings of the Bieszczady National Park. Ustrzyki Górne is a good base for hiking. In the area there are the highest peaks of the Polish Bieszczady Mountains: Połonina Caryńska (1297 m), Wielka Rawka (1304 m) and Tarnica (1346 m).
A place in the movie
The building of the Border Guard in Ustrzyki Górne stands out against the background of the Bieszczady landscape with its high transmitting tower painted in white and red. The building is visible in one scene of the film "The Big Cold", in which the protagonists drive a car along a snowy road leading past the watchtower. In the TV series 'Wataha', the Border Guard building in Ustrzyki Górne appears many times; it is one of the more frequently repeated locations in the film.
