It is said that if bees become extinct, humans would have four years to live. In the worst case scenario, all plants pollinated by bees and the animals that feed on the fruits of these plants would become extinct. Bees and the products they produce certainly play an irreplaceable role in nature.
Bee products such as honey, royal jelly, pollen and propolis also have a positive effect on human health due to their composition. They contain many vitamins, enzymes and biologically active substances that are not found in other animal products. They help improve autoimmune diseases, cancer, arthritis and other illnesses and act as a natural antibiotic. The field that deals with the use of bee products to improve health is called apitherapy.
Bees of Paradise is an eco-beekeeping project open to the public who can benefit from the effects of apitherapy. Bees are not bred for honey, but the aim is to bring people closer to their natural life. Visitors can observe the traditional behaviour of bees up close in the hives that bees have naturally created in the trunks of old trees. Listening to the soothing buzzing of the bees, breathing in the bee air directly from the hive or sleeping on the hive has a healing effect on people suffering from allergies or hypertension. Thanks to the forest educators, there is something for everyone.
The Bees of Paradise apiary is located in Hrabušice in the Slovak Paradise near Spišská Nová Ves and is open all year round.
