"Once upon a time a certain bachelor from Sporysz, in love with a maiden from Wieprz, hurried to his beloved every Sunday through the fields at the foot of Grojec mountain. Once, when he was returning, he decided to climb to the top of the mountain, but at the top he got scared and when he was going down he was suddenly confronted by a giant and said:
- Who are you and what are you doing here? I have been traversing this area for three centuries and have never met anyone. A long time ago, I and my companions carried out robberies, and the wild rose bushes and blackthorn bushes growing near the mountain are victims of our assaults. As punishment, I walk this way every night, and the thorns of the plants tear my robes and injure my body. Only a daredevil who comes twelve times at midnight during the full moon and listens to my confession will save me from the curse, and his reward will be countless treasures.
The Giant-Priest proposed that the boy should come in a month's time, and then he would show him the mysterious corners of the mountain like the castle that had sunk into the ground as a result of the curse, the spring formed from the blood of the murdered and.... - and at that moment an owl hooted three times.
The giant howled mournfully that it was time for him and he must go, but asked the boy not to forget him and to come hear his story.
The young man rushed home, where he fell into a stony sleep from the sensation. In the morning, he noticed that the hair on his temples had turned grey from fear and he only remembered that in a month's time he was to meet the giant again and talk about the treasures hidden in the mountain top. However, the fear was stronger and the boy even stopped going to the girl.
Although he told his story often, no daredevil could be found who would dare to go out on a moonlit night on Grojec."
