The nature of the Žilina region has a lot to offer. Thanks to its location in the north of Slovakia, there are various mountain massifs - the Tatras, the Orava Highlands, the Kysucké Beskydy and the Fatra Mountains. The longest Slovak river Váh flows through the area, which has created several interesting valleys in the region.
Canyons, gorges, waterfalls and various rock formations can also be found in the Rozsutec Nature Reserve in the Malá Fatra National Park. Jánošík's Holes, as this system of gorges and canyons is called, offers a large number of waterfalls and specific fauna and flora. The hole stream that shaped this valley also took care of the bizarre rock formations in the area. Interestingly, an inversion with cold air is maintained here and so it is pleasantly cool even in summer.
The Janosik Holes consist of three parts: the Lower Holes, the New Holes and the Upper Holes. The Lower Holes are the most accessible part with a nature trail. The trail through this area is easy, but it also contains the most interesting part - the narrowest passage through the gorge, where many may feel almost claustrophobic. The new holes are a bit more adventurous. There are several ladders to negotiate, a long traverse over a metal footbridge and a more significant climb. The upper holes are full of ladders and chains and are inaccessible in winter. Several waterfalls up to 4 meters high, a roaring stream or interesting rocky parts can be seen along the trail.
The experience of crossing the Janosik's Hole gorge is definitely worth it. The unique nature or the adrenaline rush that you get during the journey guarantee an experience that you will never forget.
