We invite film institutions from the area of the INTERREG Programme Poland-Slovakia to participate in a workshop on the implementation of sustainable practices.
The aim of the workshop is to help meet unit environmental targets and encourage the implementation of solutions to eliminate the negative impact of audiovisual production on the environment in the area of reducing: CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions, waste production or electricity consumption.
The audiovisual sector is not indifferent to the climate. Unlike many other industries in Europe, the sector's CO2 emissions are steadily increasing, not least because of the steady rise in media use, particularly via streaming platforms. Without decisive action and the start of a process to introduce fundamental solutions, the audiovisual industry will not be able to keep up with the environmental challenges, which may affect its competitiveness in the area of, for example, raising funds from public funding sources or cooperation with digital platforms. In addition, the audiovisual industry, as part of the entertainment industry, can influence its audience by promoting ideas and attitudes through the content it creates. This provides it with considerable opportunities to contribute to pro-environmental activities, not only in the production of an audiovisual work. A film, series, commercial or music video can promote an environmentally responsible attitude.
The workshop is a response to growing environmental problems and, consequently, to sustainable development, which involves meeting the needs of contemporary societies without limiting such an opportunity for future generations. In practice, this means taking social, environmental and economic aspects into account in business decisions. Thanks to the growing awareness of producers and film crew members, but also to the systemic solutions implemented in individual countries, changes in the approach to the environmental impact of production are becoming increasingly apparent.
