Description of the place
Bielanka is a village located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in the Gorlice poviat, in the Gorlice commune. The village is one of many Lemko centres in the Low Beskids and the first where the inhabitants use a double, Polish-Lemko name of the village. In Bielanka, it is worth seeing the Church of the Protection of the Mother of God from 1773, renovated in 1913 after the fire of 1946, where services are held in the Latin and Byzantine-Ukrainian rites; a wooden Lemko school from the 19th century and a wooden granary. Bielanka is famous for its wood tar makers. In this area, tar was burned from pine wood.
A place in the movie
Bielanka is one of the many villages of the Low Beskids where scenes for the film Dom zły by Wojciech Smarzowski from 2009 were shot. An old wooden house located far from the other buildings of the village was used as a filming location. Numerous fruit trees can be seen around the house, with the picturesque mountain landscape in the distance. It is the home of the film's main characters - Zdzisław and Bożena Dziabas, who are visited by a random guest, Edward Środoń.
