Dębno Podhalańskie
Country: Poland
Region: Lesser Poland
Lokacja główna
Description of the place
The village is located in southern Lesser Poland in the Nowotarska Basin and the historical-ethnographic region of Spiš. However, due to its cultural and historical conditions, Dębno is more closely related to Podhale than to Spiš. The first preserved records of the village come from the 13th century. The village's main attraction is the Gothic wooden church of St. Michael the Archangel, dating back to the 15th century. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the highlights of the Wooden Architecture Route in Malopolska Province.
A place in the movie
It was the wooden Gothic church in Debno, with its wonderfully integrated silhouette and unique polychromes, that became the setting for one of the most romantic scenes in the film: the wedding of Janosik to Maryna. Elements of the village landscape were also used in the composite shots of the film Młyn i krzyż.
