Description of the place
The village lies between the mountains of Mala and Veľká Fatra. The Váh and Orava rivers flow through it. For lovers of hiking, the village can offer the Suchý vrch mountain, Žobrák or Šútovský waterfall, which is located near the village. The village was named after the Hungarian ruler Béla IV, who camped at the confluence of the Orava and Váh rivers. The town was named Kiralyihaza. In the village we can see the extensive influence of the Evangelical Church, which has been active here since the beginning of the 14th century. In the 1980s, the construction of the Košice-Bohumín railway (today Žilina-Košice) began, which brought Kraľovany into the limelight. Nowadays, the village is an important transport hub.
A place in the movie
The village of Kraľovany and its surroundings attracted attention in the past as a village belonging to the Orava castle due to its strategic location, and was therefore the property of the Thurz family. It is precisely because of its location, natural but also historical beauties in its surroundings that it is interesting for many filmmakers. In many cases, shots near the confluence of the Orava River into the Váh River were used, as well as shots of the cable car heading to the Bystrička resort and the road junction in the vicinity of the village of Kraľovany.
