Description of the place
The town of Lipany, located between the Šariš Highlands and the Čergov Mountains, boasts the most precious and protected by monuments last of the ancient lime trees. The rarity of the town is the wood carving of the Pieta from the second half of the 14th century and the late Gothic main altar, created by Master Paul of Levoča, situated in the Church of St. Martin of Tours. The town has good natural and cultural potential. There are artistic ensembles of the Art School, the Septemthillis Choir and the Byzantion Choir. Cultural and sporting events are organised here. There is a municipal swimming pool in the town. The natural conditions of the surrounding area also contribute to the development of tourism. Several establishments in the town offer accommodation and catering services for tourists.
A place in the movie
The cultural and administrative centre of the northern part of the Hornotorys region welcomed filmmakers back in 2015. In the successful Oscar-nominated film "Eva Nová", its director Marko Škop filmed the scene of the funeral of the main character's sister, which took place in the old cemetery in Lipany. In the Lipa Tourist Hostel, he filmed the scene of the main character Eva staying in her hometown. A series of documentary films "In the footsteps of Master Pavel" was also filmed in Lipany, where his work The Main Altar of St. Martin is located in the parish church of St. Martin.
