A place in the movie
In the film "Święta matka Kinga", shots were presented from the procession with relics and then from the Holy Mass, which was celebrated at the Papal Altar on July 25, 1999. It was the year of Saint Kinga's canonization, which was confirmed personally in Stary Sącz by Pope John Paul II. It took place on June 16, 1999. Pictures of this event appear towards the end of the film. The shot begins with a view of the Poor Clares monastery, then we see a close-up of the saint's face in her canonization image, and then the Old Sącz meadows filled with crowds and John Paul II greeting pilgrims from the altar. Against the background of numerous shots of the altar and pilgrims, there is a fragment of the homily prepared for this occasion by the Pope. Due to his malaise, Cardinal Franciszek Macharski read it out. Then the postulator of the canonization process reads out a formal request to the Holy Father for confirmation of Kinga's sanctity. The film ends with the words of John Paul II which end the act of canonization. It is worth adding that the Papal Altar was left permanently in situ by the Tarnów bishop. It thus became one of the important tourist attractions in the region.
