Description of the place
The boundaries of the cadastral territory of the municipality of Strečno are bordered by the Žilina and Turčianska basin. The exact location of the village is determined by the passage of the Váh River through the Malá Fatra Mountains, which is characterized by untouched nature and a number of hiking and cycling trails of varying difficulty. The village of Strečno itself is adjacent to the village of Nezbudská Lúčka and the natural boundary between them is formed by the Váh River. Thanks to the beautiful nature and the Strečno Castle and the Old Castle, this village is a landmark of the region in tourism.
A place in the movie
It is the abundance of natural beauties as well as unique cultural and historical monuments located in the village, but also in its surroundings, that have predestined the village of Strečno to become a popular film location not only in this region, but also has a dominant position among film locations in Slovakia. There are important roads in the vicinity of Strečno, which appeared in the films The Interpreter, Rabaka, Partisan Trail, or Build a House, Plant a Tree. These roads offer views of the countryside, as well as of Strečno Castle itself, and thus document the attractiveness of the region. The rural atmosphere of the village is portrayed in many period shots of the part of the village where the railway stop is located, especially in the films Orbis Pictus, Three Times Dawn in the Morning. The road to the castle itself, as well as places related to the partisans, appear in Soldiers of Freedom and Partisan Trail.
