Szczyrk
Country: Poland
Region: Silesia
Lokacja główna
Description of the place
Szczyrk as a tourist destination was appreciated after World War I, when pensions started to be built here and the road was modernised. In the post-war era it became a holiday base for Silesia and the whole of Poland. Ski jumps, ski slopes, a chairlift to Skrzyczne and T-bar lifts were built. Small farms disappeared and were replaced by guesthouses, hotels, restaurants and cafes.
A place in the movie
Szczyrk's extensive landscapes were used, among others, in the films "Waiting in Monte Carlo" and "Citizen of the World", where they are visible as a background in shots related to scenes imitating car rallies. The unique character of the location is linked to the numerous serpentines of the Salmopol Pass and excellent viewpoints over the panorama of the Beskid Mountains.
