Description of the place
Tatranská Javorina is a small North Tatra village located near the Polish border. The village also includes the settlement Podspády and Lysá Poľana. In Tatranská Javorina, a barrier-free hiking trail, suitable for people with reduced mobility and the immobile, begins and ends at the Podmuráň Mining Station. The trail is 1.9 km long and consists of compacted gravel. Hiking trails lead to Kopský sedlo and Sedielko. There is a wooden church and the Hohenlohe hunting lodge, which served for the representation of the highest constitutional officials. The surrounding area provides excellent conditions for summer and winter hiking. The village of Ždiar, about 8 km away, offers ski slopes for winter sports.
A place in the movie
The enchanting nature of the border village has inspired several filmmakers. The director Martin Ťapák filmed a scene from the war film "The Day That Will Not Die" in a meadow north of Tatranská Javorina. Other well-known films include "Eagle Feather", "Confidential Enemy" and "Friends at Sea". Martin Huba made here a video film about the hard-tested brotherly love based on the novel by Arthur Schnitzler called "Blind Geronimo and his Brother". In Tatranská Javorina, in the Church of St. Anna, the filming of the film by director Martin Hollý entitled "The Copper Tower" took place.
