Description of the place
The beautiful glacial lake situated in the eastern part of the High Tatras was named after the green spots that were the result of its springs springing up at its bottom. This touristically popular lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in the High Tatras. It is located in the largest and deepest karst basin of the valley of the Kežmarská White Water near the Little Kežmarský Peak. On its shore at the end of the Green Pleso Valley stands the Chalet at the Green Pleso, where you can refresh and relax. Hiking trails lead to the Great White Pleso, to the Jahňací Peak, to the White Water, to the Tatra Matlars, or to the Rocky Pleso.
A place in the movie
The picturesque Zelené pleso enchanted the Czech director Marie Poledňáková, who filmed scenes from the family film "How to tame crocodiles", nominated for the Czech Lion Award in 2006. Miroslav Sobota filmed the seven-part series of short fiction stories "Where Chamois Sleep" at the alpine chalet. The scene of the film "Eagle Feather" was filmed 150 m from the chalet on the Green Pleso on the yellow hiking trail. Antonín Moskalyk filmed an adventure drama about the mountaineer Peter called "Hawk Tower". In the film "Copper Tower " there are scenes of Pirin and his friend carrying the harmonium to the hut. It was filmed about 200 m above the hut at Zeleny pleso on the red hiking trail leading to Veľká Svišt'ovka (Big Svišt'ovka). The footage in the roadmovie "With you I am enjoying Slovakia", where Slovak actress, sportswoman Gabika Marcinková and Irish student Tom get to know Slovakia's features, comes from this lake.
