About the movie
As part of rehabilitation, the recidivist Brute ends up in an orphanage in Romania. He quickly realizes that some children are being sold to Western European families for adoption. Brute is furious at this truth but also discovers that the money from foreign adoptions helps keep the rest of the children financially secure. The terminally ill 12-year-old Gypsy Elena falls in love with him, and the only thing Brute can do for her is to pretend to love her. The change that takes place in him makes him fight the evil of the system. However, the tragic intertwining of dependencies makes his choices "the choices without a choice".
