About the movie
The film tells the story of young Zosia Glowacki from a Volhynian village inhabited by Ukrainians, Poles and Jews. The girl is married off to an elderly widower, the village mayor Skiba, who shortly after the nuptials goes into the army - World War II breaks out and dramatically changes the life of the local community. Zosia witnesses and participates in the atrocities inflicted on Poles in Volhynia by Ukrainian nationalists in 1943-1944. Poles murdered Ukrainians in retaliation. Zosia witnesses revenge killings and neighbourhood scores. The director also shows Poles helping Jews and Ukrainians saving Poles.
