About the movie
The action of the novel takes place at the turn of 1947 and 1948, in times of complicated political and social situation. The main character, Vlado, comes as a teacher to the family of a wealthy businessman. He meets Milka, a servant, as well as Dżuliana, the daughter of a wealthy businessman. Vlado is constantly emotionally torn but eventually, he has to decide between love and conscience. February 1948 is the time when Vlado becomes engaged in politics and starts meeting people.

Trivia
- At the IFF in Karlovy Vary in 1976, Dušan Tarageľ received an award for acting in the film "If I Had a Girlfriend". He could not receive the award in person. The director, Martin Ťapák, did not agree to release him from shooting the film, for which Tarageľ blames him to this day because he has never received an acting award again.
