The legend of the devil is connected with Krásný Brod and the Kamjana hill, on which the Devil's Stone is situated - a sandstone rock formation with a carved relief of the devil's head.
The main character in the legend is the devil Fras, who, together with other devils and strigoi, tried to destroy the 14th-century monastery of Krásno Brod with a large stone. They didn't like the fact that the local God-fearing people, who were taught by the monks to do good and not to believe in magic, used to meet in the monastery. They therefore rolled a huge stone from a nearby mountain and carried it on the little fingers of their hands over the Kamjana hill, with the aim of dropping it on the monastery. The prayers of the monks and people prevented them from doing so. At daybreak, when they were near Krasny Brod, the cock crowed and they lost their power. The stone fell on the place given to them, and that is why it is called the Devil's Stone.
This legend is in fact fictional, but this stone is actually located at the place in question. The legend also hides the long-standing truth that the monastery of Beaumont was a thorn in the side of many evil-doers.
The relief of the devil's face carved into the stone dates back to 1994 and is becoming an increasingly popular attraction. The Devil's Stone is also a popular place for its beautiful views not only of the town of Medzilaborce, but also of the surrounding countryside.
