A long time ago, in the spring of 1713, a wanderer with a gloomy and vacant look stopped at Cieszyn's "Pod Modrą Gwiazdą" Inn. As the inhabitants, out of fear, began to demand that the Innkeeper throw him out, the pilgrim was forcibly pushed out into the street. But before that, he still managed to throw some curse words in a foreign language towards the people, and then his black eyes lit up like glowing coals.
Just before dawn, bells began to toll in the city and a thick fog covered the sky. The suffocating air began to poison with every breath, causing terrified people to fall to the ground in deathly convulsions.
When the bells stopped ringing, a pilgrim appeared in the middle of the street, carrying a staff in his hand and accompanied by a woman dressed in a black, frayed sheet. Behind them, the Devil followed merrily, and a sad Angel wandered along.
The Devil knocked on the doors of the tenement houses, and if the inhabitants did not want to open it, the Moorish Virgin slipped inside and took their lives anyway. And when it seemed that there was no rescue left, someone remembered the hermit Santarius, who lived in a small cottage outside the city walls.
Santarius, having heard the chilling tale, agreed to help. As night fell, he began to play the church organ, and his music drew a deathly entourage to the Temple. When the Morowa Lady embraced him with her bony arms and kissed him, Santarius fell dead to the ground.
In the morning, the wind chased away the clouds and the sun appeared in the sky. The plague was gone and the survivors believed that it was thanks to Santarius, whose soul had floated to heaven, that happiness had returned.
