Living sculptures are a street art form where artists and ordinary people alike transform themselves into famous personalities, creating a huge gallery in the streets of the city.
The Festival of Living Statues is the only festival of its kind in Slovakia and every year it also hosts foreign artists who come to show off to the Slovak audience. During the event it is possible to meet personalities of Slovak and world history depicted in their typical positions. The statues do not move, but they may surprise visitors when they move just as they walk by. During the event, it is possible, for example, to shake hands with former British Prime Minister W. Churchill or aviator M.R. Stefanik. The personalities depicted change every year.
The main highlight of the festival is the performance of the Slovak artistic group Big Names, which is famous in the world and has also performed in Dubai, Hong Kong and Paris. The accompanying programme is made up of performances by various artists, such as a drum show, children's theatre or singing performances, accompanied by a great gastronomic experience.
The festival takes place every summer in Spišská Nová Ves and the sculptures fill the entire park of the town for two days. The event is one of the most popular events held in the Košice region.
