Description of the place
Spišská Nová Ves is a district town and the centre of Spisz, that belongs to the Košice Region. The city is known as the entrance to the Slovak Paradise National Park and is situated on the river Hornád in the southern part of the Hornád Basin. The city has 36,729 inhabitants and an area of 66.67 km2, It is located at an altitude of 430 m above sea level. Archaeological finds of the Slavs from the 8th century were found in the city and its vicinity. There are many historical monuments in the city, including the 14th-century Roman Catholic parish church which has the tallest tower in Slovakia.

The films "Deti" and "Loli Paradička" were shot in the town of Spišská Nová Ves, with beautiful monuments in the background. The scenes for the film "Loli Paradička" were shot at the fair in Spišská Nová Ves. The fair takes place in the city centre, which boasts bourgeois and craftsman houses on the largest oval square in Slovakia. The city is very popular with tourists because many hiking trails to the entire Slovak Paradise start here.
