Paragliding is an aerial sport that uses a specially designed wing (parachute) that inflates and does not leak air and has a seat attached to the lines. The pilot can sit or lie in it. Flying on such a wing is based on the use of the lift generated by the forward movement of the wing.
Paragliding is for all those who like to admire the views and are not afraid of heights or bird's eye view. For beginners, the so-called tandem flight is accessible, in which there are two seats on the wing, an experienced instructor sits behind the client and controls the parachute. Advanced fliers fly independently. Two types of flights are recognised. Classical paragliding depends on weather conditions and can reach altitudes of up to 500 metres. Thermal paragliding uses rising currents and, thanks to the right flow, it is possible to get even higher than the take-off point, up to 1.5 kilometres. Both types of flights provide an unforgettable experience.
The iconic hill for thermal flying in Slovakia is Stranik. It is a hill situated in the Kysuce Highlands near Žilina with views of the Little Fatra, Žilina Basin and Kysuce. You can take off from it in almost all directions and it also offers many places for safe landing. It is also referred to as the best hill for learning to fly.
