Inspiracja

Already in the seventeenth century the so-called Spišská lace appeared. They were knitted from white linen threads and multicoloured cotton threads. It is a kind of bobbin lace which is beautiful, not very demanding in technique, but laborious. It is made with a single strip of thread, which is pulled through the whole lace from the beginning to the end, but changes the pattern as it goes along. Most often it is plant or sacred motifs.
The white 'twist lace' was made of a strip bent into loops. They were complemented by chalice flowers or the twists were in a lattice of chain or tulle. There were also twigs with flowers in the lattice. For the most part, these laces were found in churches.

There were also lace bonnets. The most common was the so-called headband, which was on the front of the cap. Here, flower motifs in different colours were assembled in a black grid in the form of rings and loops.
According to the colour frame and motifs, there were Catholic caps, Russian caps (villages in the Torysa valley) and black-and-white Polish caps with a wide front (between Lendak, Stará Ľubovňa and Orlov).

Before the Second World War, the caps were knitted from silk thread, then switched to cotton thread for embroidery. The Spiš lace leans towards the striped lace from Milan and the Gemer lace.

Today, this beautiful visual art in the region is mainly represented by Ms Mgr. Angela Czintelová, who since 2000 has been leading the bobbin lace club at the Gemerské l'Enlightenment Centre in Rožňava. She focuses mainly on the study, preservation and promotion of bobbin lace and is the author of the book Gemerská paličkovaná lace (Gemerská paličkovaná lace), which contains 13 of the best-known patterns used on fringe lace and hats.
