Description of the place
The village of Krivany is located at the junction of the Levoča Hills, the Šariš Highlands and the Šariš Valley, near the Torysa River. The very ancient village has many cultural monuments. One of the cultural monuments is a Renaissance one-storey manor house from the first half of the 17th century. A remarkable building - a water mill - also dates from this period. There is an early Gothic Roman Catholic church of St. Stephen the First Martyr. The Centre of Folk Culture, which was opened in 2009, exhibits the collections of the well-known collector Ján Lazorík.
A place in the movie
A very ancient village with a rich history attracted the attention of director Marek Škop, who found a specific character here, the well-known Mr. Ján Lazorík (84) from Kriviany. His peculiar personality he placed in the documentary "Other Worlds". He, as a man of "discontent", pointed out the change of times, thinking and life of ordinary people. On the declining values of the youth growing up, and the simpler but more peaceful life of yore. He expresses his joy and pride in being a Sharishman. Juraj Kerekes together with a folklore group from Krivany made the films "Krivjanska svadba" and "Ej, ovce moje ovce" based on Ján Lazorík's theme, where they highlighted the folk customs in the area of Krivany. In 1975, Martin Ťapák made the film "From Boy to Soldier", which depicts the life of a boy from early childhood to his departure for the war through folk customs.
