Description of the place
A very famous spa. Particularly in demand in the interwar period, when it was popular among people of merit (e.g. Jan Kiepura). It is distinguished by many interesting buildings from that time, which are considered pearls of spa modernism. It is famous for its mineral waters and is now a large sanatorium treatment centre. The famous primitivist painter Nikifor lived and worked in Krynica. The city is located in the Poprad Landscape Park and is a starting point for trips to the surrounding mountains. Five tourist trails run through Krynica, including the Main Beskid Trail. The city is also one of the largest Polish winter sports centres. Tourists can go skiing, tobogganing and use the ice rink here. Thanks to the cable car to Góra Parkowa and the cable car to Jaworzyna, even less experienced tourists can admire the mountain ranges surrounding Krynica. To the west, we can see the Slovak side of the Tatra Mountains, the Małe Pieniny Mountains slightly west of them, and further north-west Radziejowa and Gorce with Turbacz. In the foreground, Hala Labowska and Runek can be seen. In the north, the forested slopes of the Low Beskids are visible.
A place in the movie
The city had already appeared in pre-war productions - mainly comedies. Krynica was then a fashionable resort, wealthy people often went here "to the spa", so it was a natural scenery for these types of plots in films. The atmosphere of the interwar era was also reflected in the local stylish architecture. Not only spa buildings were used in films, but also wonderful stylish villas, many of which have been preserved here in excellent condition. Later, this location was used primarily because of its landscape and tourist values. A separate category lists numerous films devoted to the figure of the painter Nikifor.
