Description of the place
Mlynky is a village situated in the Košice region, in the district of Spišská Nová Ves, in the eastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains in the upper reaches of the Hnilec River. There is a water reservoir Palcmanská Maša near the village. The village is located at an altitude of 739 m above sea level, covers 25.05 km2 and has 526 inhabitants. The village was established as a result of the merger of seven mining settlements (Mlynky, Palcmanská Maša, Prostredný Hámor, Biele Vody, Havrania Dolina, Rakovec and Sykavka) and dates back to 1850, when it was separated from Spišská Nová Ves.
A place in the movie
In the film "Piórko", scenes from the orphanage were filmed in a re-education centre in the village of Mlynky, part of Biele Vody.
