A place in the movie
The "Dunajec" castle was used in adventure, thriller and historical films due to its unique visual qualities and rich, and often mysterious history. The medieval fortress is picturesquely situated on the right bank of the Czorsztyn Reservoir in the village of Niedzica-Zamek, in the area of Polish Spiš. The castle was most likely erected in the early 14th century. The feudal "Niedzica state" (the property of the Niedzica castle) extended to the entire Spiš Zamagurie. Initially, the castle was a Hungarian watchtower on the border with Poland. After the end of World War I, the castle became part of the Polish territory. Currently, it is a museum and hotel facility and is one of the greatest historical attractions of the southern part of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. This attractiveness is also influenced by the multitude of legends associated with the history of the castle. One of them is related to the Incan Kipu, an artefact found here after World War II, which is a record in the form of knotted writing. It has not yet been deciphered, but there is a legend that it contained information about a treasure hidden by the Incas, which was supposed to enable them to regain their sovereignty.
