Description of the place
The first open-air regional museum in post-partition Poland, founded in the 1930s. The open-air museum presents the extremely original material culture of the Upper Orava region. The heart of the complex is a manor estate with a preserved small 17th-century park surrounded by streams, in an irregular layout, with the silhouette of Babia Góra visible in the background. In addition to the old manor, rural buildings with equipment and devices such as a water mill or a fuller, works of Orava folk artists are also presented here.
A place in the movie
The extremely attractive location of the open-air museum determines its scenic attractiveness, which is also appreciated by filmmakers. The place was the backdrop for many historical productions, often associated with regional elements. Both the interiors of individual buildings were used, as well as the ambulatory and the view of wider layouts with the old church. Adventure productions for young people and films were also shot here, where the open-air museum was presented as a fairy-tale land, an illustration of a fantastic world. In documentary productions, it was primarily a suitable setting for the presentation of Orava rituals and customs, as well as local traditional industries, such as cloth weaving, milling, etc.
