Description of the place
The village of Ruská Nová Ves is located in the northeastern part of the Košice basin in the valley of the Hradný brook. The Slanské vrchy volcanic mountains are located in the village. On the hill Zámek above the village there is a Zbojnínický castle also known as Soľnohrad, of which only the ruins have been preserved. The ruins of the castle are reached by the "Water Road to Soľnohrad" nature trail. The dominant features of the village are the Greek-Catholic church dedicated to the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God and the Roman-Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary of the Seven Sorrows. Accommodation is available in a guesthouse directly in the village, or in the nearby area and Prešov.
A place in the movie
In Ruská Nová Ves, surrounded by the beauty of the Slanské Hills, the Prešov director Marko Škop filmed the documentary "Other Worlds". On a natural football field, a football match between young talented Roma footballers and the Rusyn football club Karpatia takes place. Fedor Vico encourages them, like a true football coach and enthusiast. He is aware of their talent, but also of the disadvantage that they are not as trained as the Tatran boys.
