Starý Smokovec is the oldest settlement in the High Tatras. It belongs to the most important Tatra tourism resorts. There is a municipal office, hotels, smaller pensions, travel agencies, rental shops. The dominant feature of Starý Smokovec is the Art Nouveau Grand Hotel, there is also a Roman Catholic church, Villa Klotilda, the Tatra Electric Railway station. Historical cultural monuments include the Villa Ilona, which is intended for meetings of the town representatives with representatives of domestic and foreign partners. There are excellent conditions for summer and winter tourism.
A place in the movie
The oldest settlement of the High Tatras with its beautiful Tatra surroundings has hosted filmmakers in the past. In the thirteen-part series "The Sinful People of Prague", director Jiří Sequens Sr. The eighth episode, entitled Telegram from Naples, is set in the Tatras. A shot of the Grand Hotel Starý Smokovec appears in the film, but it is not clear whether the following scenes were actually filmed there. Other films include "A Novel for Women", "The Eagle Feather" and the crime series "30 Cases of Major Zeman".
