About the movie
The story of Hipolit Kaleń, an experienced soldier, clever and swashbuckler, shown against the backdrop of bloody fights between Polish soldiers, Ukrainian nationalists and the Polish "reactionary" underground in the Bieszczady Mountains in 1946. Kaleń, saving himself from troubles, pretends to be a deserter and a traitor, fights recklessly and finally dies from a Polish bullet protecting a Ukrainian child.

- "Based on Jan Gerhard's novel "Luny w Bieszczadach"". The novel was printed in the "Nowiny Rzeszowskie" daily from December 5, 1959 to May 25, 1960.
- The well-known songs "Golden Chrysanthemums" (music and lyrics by Zbigniew Maciejowski) and "Beyond the Mountains and Rivers" (March of the First Corps) (lyrics by Adam Ważyk, music by Aleksander Barchacz) were performed in the film.
