About the movie
The film is an adaptation of Stefan Żeromski's last novel of the same title. The main character, Cezary Baryka, is a young Pole living in Baku. At his father's insistence, Cezary goes to Poland and takes part in the Polish-Bolshevik war, during which he saves the life of one of the soldiers. In gratitude, after the war, he invites Cezary to his family estate. Baryka hopes that he will be able to lead a peaceful life there.
