Description of the place
Bukowno is an industrial city, located in the Małopolskie Voivodeship, in the Olkusz district, on the border of the Silesian and Krakow-Częstochowa Uplands, on the Sztoła River, among deciduous and coniferous forests. The history of Bukowno dates back to the first half of the 15th century and is related to the beginnings of the exploitation of lead ore and its smelting. Due to the exceptionally charming green areas around the city, there are favourable conditions for recreation and weekend tourism. In the southeastern part of the city, there is an artificial stocked reservoir, and the surrounding forests are an area for mushroom pickers (Starczynów Desert). The picturesque, wooded meanders of the Sztoła River are a suitable place for family recreation. Interesting tourist trails run through the area of Bukowno. It is also worth seeing the Ore Mining Museum, dedicated to the history of iron ore mining, located in the basement of the "Skałka" School Complex, not far from the "Bolesław" Mining and Metallurgical Plant.
