Description of the place
The village is situated on the eastern edge of the Orava Highlands along the Oravica River. There are several sights in the village, such as the Statue of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, which was built in 1812, or several crosses. You can also see the national cultural monument - the Church of St. Imrich. An older, wooden version was built in 1653. Later, in 1774, it was built in its present form of stone in the Baroque style. All the above mentioned monuments underwent reconstruction in 2010-2012.
A place in the movie
In 1966, the director Martin Ťapák and his team came to Upper Orava, specifically to the village of Čimhová, where several shots for the film The Living Whip were filmed. Apart from the actors, people from the village also starred in the Slovak film classic, even the local minstrels and the churchwarden were in the shots from the church. Local citizens were driven in cars from work to attend the filming in the local church.
