Slovak film, theatre and television actor who has portrayed many distinctive characters.
Jozef Kroner was born in the village of Staškov and was one of twelve children. He was attracted to acting and alongside his work he performed in amateur ensembles. He got his first professional acting engagement in a theatre in Martin. From 1956 to 1984 he worked in the drama of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. He acted in many television series and films - Kubo (1965), The Living Whip (1966), Lynx Heifer (1970), Roses and Snow, The Scent of Craft, Slovácko se nes Judgement (1978, 1984), Sváko Ragan (1975), Long Live Grandfather (1978). Slovak film journalists voted him the Slovak actor of the 20th century in the 2000 poll. He is the author of the books The Actor on the Rod (1970), The Actor Not Only on the Rod (1974), With the Camera and with the Rod (1979), The Extraordinary Testament (1982) and About the Fish Belicka (1983). In 1967 he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist and in 1978 the title of National Artist. He was an amateur enthusiast and self-taught actor, portraying internally rich, complex dramatic characters with different destinies. He was a very gifted comedian.
