Description of the place
Czorsztyn is a village in the Nowy Targ district, on the border of the Pieniny and Gorce mountains. For some time, the owner of Czorsztyn was the famous knight Zawisza Czarny. The area of the village is a remnant of a larger village that was flooded during the formation of the Czorsztyn Reservoir. It is famous for its picturesque ruins of a Gothic castle. It has a well-developed tourist base. Several Pieniny trails run here, e.g. from Czorsztyn Castle to Niedzica Castle, which can be seen from here on the opposite shore of the lake, or from the castle to Trzy Korony. There is also a marina for gondolas that can be used to sail the waters of the lagoon during the season.
A place in the movie
The surroundings of Czorsztyn are used in historical films - for example in the film Podhale w ogniu, which presents the authentic story of the events of the peasant rebellion led by Kostka Napierski in 1651 and which takes place in the Czorsztyn castle.Romantic scenery is also suitable for adventure films. This was the case in the cloak-and-dagger film Mandrin. The area is attractive to filmmakers due to its picturesque location, castle ruins and vibrant regional folk culture.
