Inspiracja
In the Pieniny Mountains, at the beginning of the Dunajec Gorge, there is a place 12 m wide and 8 m deep called Janosik's Leap. The place is associated with the legend of Janosik, who hid from persecution while escaping from prison in Niedzic Castle. On the left bank, on a promontory, you can see the imprint of a flail on a rock, which testifies to the extraordinary strength of the robber leader.
Another legend says that Janosik and his bandits, wandering through Slovakia in the Zamagurze region, gave away all the ducats they had looted and there was not enough to pay for the night in an inn. So they had to plan another attack, but the nearest estate was only in Stará Ľubovňa. Since the robbers were few in number and a difficult raid awaited them, Janosik decided to recruit new robbers. Anyone who wanted to join his team had to be able to jump over the Dunajec River. Janosik, by example, was the first to tackle this difficult test. Where he stepped, his footprint then remained. This is the place where the Dunajec River first crashes against the rocks.
The writer Igor Válek writes in his book Tales of Slovak Rivers like this: "Hey, it would have to be a guy who would jump over it and not get his flippers wet!".
