Description of the place
The village of Habovka is located in the north of Slovakia in the district of Tvrdošín. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1593. The surroundings of the village are very varied. There are towns such as Tvrdošín, Trstena and monuments such as the Museum of Orava Village, Orava Castle. Habovka creates a bridge between these monuments and towns. An unusual monument in the area is Rio de Klin - a statue of Christ, similar to the one from Rio, built in the village of Klin.
A place in the movie
The village of Habovka together with its sister village Zuberec is situated in the Cold Valley. The village, which is protected from the southeast by the mountain massif of the Roháče Mountains, is characterized by its harsh cold climate, for which even the May snow is not a special feature. It is these specific natural conditions, together with the well-preserved history of the Thurzian times, that have become a magnet for many filmmakers. Many films have been shot in Habovka and also in the neighbouring Zuberec.
