Description of the place
The village is situated in the northern part of the Carpathian Arch, in the district of Tvrdošín, in the region of Upper Orava. It lies between the Skorušinský Mountains, the valley of the Cold Stream. Orava White Potok is near the village of Podbiel, where there is František's ironworks, the ruins of the ironworks factory hall or Bielska skala, a chalk limestone cliff with a prehistoric hill fort, a national nature reserve. In Tvrdošín we can find the Wooden Gothic Church of All Saints, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Nearby is also the well-known tourist village of Zuberec.
A place in the movie
The exterior of the old rectory building can be seen in the pictures from the film The Living Whip. The director of the film thus takes the viewers into the past of the village, as the old rectory was demolished in 1986 and nowadays coniferous trees are planted in its place, which complete the colour of the village. The rectory served its purpose for 120 years. The rural atmosphere, cultural customs, strong faith, as well as funny fantasy ideas of the simple heroes of the film Rysavá jalovica can be seen in the shots of the village of Oravský Biely Potok filmed in the vicinity of the cemetery.
