The town of Sabin is the location of one of the most important films of Czechoslovak production, entitled "The Shop on the Main Street" ("Obchod na kora"). "Shop on the Main Street" ("Obchod na kora"). The film began shooting on 12 June 1964, based on the book by Ladislav Grosman. The plot of the novel is set in Humenné, but the filmmakers chose the town of Sabine for the filming. The reason was that the town had not yet been modernised and the older architecture fitted perfectly with the film's setting.

The townspeople also played a part in the film. When the filmmakers were looking for volunteers to be extras in Sabinow, the locals advised them to visit the Sabinow prison. When they came there, several supervisors immediately accepted the offer and enjoyed filming. They were happy to be able to take a break from the prison atmosphere in this way. One of the characters was a dog that went missing during the filming and a search for him began. Statists were recruited in the nearby village of Drienica. The film featured women from the nearby pegeer-u, who escaped from the barn during filming. The interior scenes were shot in Prague and the exterior scenes were shot in Sabinov.

During filming, the filmmakers ordered uniforms to be sewn for members of the former guard, as it was no longer possible to obtain originals at the time. As soon as they arrived in town, they started dressing the actors and extras in them. Local residents immediately noticed the differences between these clothes and the originals, so they took the filmmakers home and took old such uniforms out of wardrobes and boxes to show them the differences.

"The Shop on Main Street" won the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Academy Award) for Best Foreign Language Film in 1966. A bronze statue of Oscar has been erected in the city centre. It is made of tiles and holds a button in his hands. It symbolises the misery that followed when everything was taken away from the inhabitants.
