A place in the movie
The film makers Ján Kadár and Elmar Klos chose the town of Sabinov for the shooting of the film The Shop on Main Street. The scene in which Imrich Kuchár, Jozef Katz and the printer Blau initiate Brtek into the rules of the charity association, asking him not to harm Lautman, was filmed in the historical centre of Sabinov. The exterior scenes take place at Námestí slobody 12, but the interior scenes of the barbershop were filmed in the Barandov studios. A 2.5 m tall bronze statue of an Oscar, holding not a sword but a button, stands opposite the film barbershop. The nutton has become a symbol of this important film that made the city more visible. It is a replica of the famous award.
