Description of the place
The largest city of Beskid Sądecki and the region known as Sądecczyzna. Currently, the city has a district status. One of the oldest towns in Małopolska, founded on November 8, 1292, as a royal town. It lies at the fork of the Dunajec and Kamienica rivers at the foot of the mountain massifs: Beskid Sądecki, Beskid Wyspowy and Beskid Niski in the vicinity of the Rożnowskie Foothills. The city is distinguished by interesting architecture and is famous, among others, for an interesting urban layout of the Old Town with a vast market square, in the centre of which is the Town Hall - an eclectic building that is the heart of the city. An important monument is also the Collegiate Church of St.Małgorzata - a Gothic church built in the 14th century. There are scarce remains of the Royal Castle, erected by Casimir the Great in the years 1350–1360, that have been destroyed many times, but the city is proud of its history. The seats of voivodeship and powiat local government and cultural institutions are located in Nowy Sącz. Numerous events with great promotional potential take place here, including the International Festival of Children’s Folk Ensembles “Festival of the Children of Mountains”, or the Multimedia Festival of Małopolska Art, KARPATY OFFer.
A place in the movie
The leading film locations are two branches of the District Museum in Nowy Sącz: Sądecki Ethnographic Park and Galician Town. The open-air museum has many old rural buildings characteristic of the region, which are often used as scenery with the value of authenticity. In addition, the open-air museum takes up a large area, which allowed for an attractive location of premises. Therefore, it is possible to take wider shots showing how the village looked in the past. The Galician Town, on the other hand, is a reconstruction of authentic buildings from the region in an extremely attractive urban layout, featuring a market square with a town hall.
In addition, the city's large main square with an original, magnificent town hall is also stunning. Nowy Sącz was the subject of several interesting documentaries. It is also often used as the scenery of a typical small Galician city. The old town locations create a good atmosphere for historical productions.
